Systems Engineer
Description:
Responsible for the planning & engineering of an organization's systems infrastructure. Includes the implementation & design of hardware & software & monitoring the performance of systems.
Responsibilities:
· Executing hardware & operating system maintenance of development, staging & production environments under the guidance of the Systems Engineering Manager
· Complies with deployment processes established for client applications
· Executes application deployments within all environments
· Participates in the technical requirements gathering phases of complex web applications to help review hosting environment needs
· Implements & configures technical infrastructures to support the applications built under the guidance of the software engineering manager
· Relentlessly pursues the mission, vision, & values of the Systems Engineering practice established by the Systems Engineering Manager
Required Skills:
· 2 to 5 years of experience maintaining both hardware & software in heterogeneous server environments
· 2+ years of experience specializing in web-based applications
· Experience deploying applications to common web application servers such as Microsoft.NET, IBM WebSphere, Apache Tomcat, JBoss, & others
· Strong written & verbal communication skills
· Experience managing crisis situations to resolution, & reporting on cause, action, results, & future mitigation plans
· Experience implementing security & configuration of windows, Linux, & UNIX environments
· Experience deploying complex web applications across development, staging, & production environments
· Experience configuring & managing user security infrastructures like Microsoft Active Directory
· Experience installing, configuring & managing source control & code management systems for web development such as Subversion, CVS, Git, Code Collaborator, Mercurial, or others
· Experience installing, configuring & leveraging deployment technologies like CruiseControl, Hudson, OpenDeploy or others
· A Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science, MIS, or a related field is strongly preferred. Equivalent work experience and/or certificate program participation will be considered on an individual basis
· Ability to create documentation of operational processes
· Keen attention to detail & the ability to catch the most subtle defects
· Ability to use systematic methods to research issues
· Familiarity with automated performance, quality, & security testing tools is a plus
· Familiarity with coding techniques that assist in testing such as basic SQL or NUnit / JUnit a plus
